Since today was such a beautiful day (53 degrees in Feb), we thought we would take the kids to the Philadelphia Zoo. The main reason for going was to show Evan (our elephant enthusist), some REAL, LIVE, elephants! To our disappointment, there were none there, as they have recently been moved while the zoo is updating their exhibit! BUMMER! This elephant statue at the front of the zoo was the closest thing Evan got to a live elephant!
Since we were so bummed about not seeing the elephants, we went over to check out the giraffes (which would be our next favorite animal). This guy was so neat, and we enjoyed watching him eat leaves off the top of the tree, and walk around on those LONG legs! It was comical to see him "bend" over, as they spread their legs wide apart! We loved this guy!
After we visited the giraffes, the kids were ready to pet some animals! So we headed to the Children's Zoo and left them pet away! I even got in on the action! There were bunnies, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, ducks and chickens in the Children's Zoo. They really enjoyed it!
As we were leaving the zoo, we noticed that there were trolley tracks down the middle of the roads. I was wondering if trolleys really rode down these tracks, and just at that time, we got behind one of these! A REAL working trolley hooked to the power lines and everything! It was so cool!
Before going home, we wanted to take the kids to King of Prussia, and show them just how big this mall was! We were starving till we got there, so we ate a restaurant inside called Ruby's Diner. It was a 50's themed diner, that reminded me a lot of a Steak and Shake. It was very good! The kids got paper cars for their kids meals that they could decorate with stickers. The boys especially loved it!
Of course no visit to King of Prussia would be complete without a visit to The Cheesecake Factory! Especially for cheesecake LOVERS like me and Evan! Cheesecake is his absolute favorite dessert, so I knew that I had to take him there to experience some of the best cheesecake in the world! We got a fresh strawberry cheesecake which was absolutely heavenly!
So we had a GREAT day in Philadelphia today! We plan to visit again in the near future, as there is so much more to see and do!
we have eaten at ruby's before! it is cute!
