Cooking with kids

The kids decided to try something new in our household. They asked me if they would be allowed to pick and make what they would like to for dinner once a week! "Of course", I said! While I will admit that I am not the best cook, I know that these are life skills, and decided to give it my best effort! Abbey was up first, and she wanted to make cocktail shrimp (her absolute favorite), along with noodles and brocolli! That was fine with me, so Monday after school we started our supper.

Here she is adding the beer (don't worry, nobody took a sip!), adding the shrimp, and cooking the shrimp! She did a great job and they were rather tasty!

It turned out DELICIOUS! She was SO proud!

Their responsibility for the meal includes: picking what they want to make, create their own grocery list and go with me to the store to buy their ingredients, cook as much of their dinner as possible, set the table and pour drinks, serve their meal, and clean up their meal. She did a great job, and I hope they don't get sick of this too soon! I enjoy being in the kitchen with them teaching them what (even though it's not much) I know about cooking! Stay tuned for tomorrow night when Evan is making brinner (pancakes, bacon and butter). That's exactly what his menu said! I'm sure Darryl will be thrilled!!

Until next time,

  2. Well, he says that he wants to, but I'm not sure. He has a very short attention span! He helps with some cooking but he loses interest! Unless he throws a fit, I'll probably just let the older two do it for now!
